The Evolution of Online Gaming Technology: Insights from Library Research

The rapid development of digital technologies has transformed online gaming from a simple network-based entertainment medium into a complex digital ecosystem integrating cloud computing, artificial intelligence, immersive technologies, blockchain systems, and virtual environments. This study aims to examine the evolution of online gaming technology and identify the major technological dimensions that have shaped its development. The study employed a qualitative research design using a Library Research approach. Data were collected from scholarly journal articles, academic books, conference proceedings, and other reputable academic publications related to online gaming technology and digital innovation. The collected literature was analyzed using Thematic Analysis to identify recurring concepts, patterns, and theoretical insights. The findings reveal that the evolution of online gaming technology is characterized by three interconnected dimensions: technological infrastructure development, technological convergence, and digital ecosystem transformation. Advances in networking systems and cloud computing have enhanced accessibility and scalability, while the integration of artificial intelligence, virtual reality, augmented reality, and blockchain technologies has transformed gaming environments into increasingly immersive and adaptive systems. Furthermore, online gaming has evolved into a broader digital ecosystem involving virtual economies, online communities, and metaverse-oriented environments. This study contributes to the literature by providing a comprehensive conceptual synthesis that explains online gaming technology as an evolving digital ecosystem shaped by continuous innovation and technological convergence.
